Ecological Benefits of Biochar

Carbon Sequestration and Pollution Mitigation

As global greenhouse emissions continue to rise throughout the world, especially in wealthier countries, Biochar helps by providing carbon sequestration and pollution mitigation. ARB technology generates a negative carbon footprint when its Biochar is sequestered to amend soil. This is one solution to meet guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

According to the IPPC, the global atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration must be below 480 parts per million (ppm) by 2100 to avoid a global mean temperature increase of more than 2 degrees Celsius.

To achieve this reduction, most IPCC scenarios require net negative emissions toward the end of this century to lower atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations.

In addition, Biochar used as a soil amendment enhances crop production and nutrient retention, while insulating the atmosphere from additional carbon dioxide. Lastly, replenished soil lengthens the sequestration duration of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
